Rain check 這成語出自美國，直譯是「雨天支票」。棒球、網球等比賽因雨取消，主辦機構會發「雨天支票」給觀眾，持票可換回入場費或換取下次比賽入場劵。引伸其義，説要一張 rain check 等於說「暫不應約或暫時辭謝，但希望將來可獲得邀請或款待」，rain check 之後常用 on 帯出暫時辭謝的事物，例如: (1) I'm sorry I can't go to dinner with you tonight, but can I take a rain check (on that)? (對不起，我今晚不能和你吃飯，改天好嗎？) (2) "Would you like some roast duck?" "I'll take a rain check, thanks." ( 「吃點烤鴨好嗎？」「暫時不要了，謝謝。」 - 摘自apple 2009-01-13。

卡位
有間隔的座位，攤位，小室等，英文叫 booth，例如 telephone booth (電話亭)、photo booth (投幣式自動拍照亭)、voting booth (投票站的圈票間)等。過海隧道兩端的收費亭，叫 tollbooth。
餐廳的卡位也叫 booth，或 restaurant booth，e.g. (1) When I go to a restaurant, I prefer sitting at a booth, which gives a feeling of seclusion 我上餐廳，喜歡坐卡位。卡位給人隱蔽的感覺)。(2) I saw you the other day seated opposite a beautiful woman at a booth in a restaurant, eating lunch 我前幾天看見你和一個漂亮女郎在餐廳卡位上對坐吃午飯。- 摘自apple 2008-12-12。
